Beyond the Conference
This plenary session will explore services and resources successfully implemented for employers in other communities to support them with the hiring and retaining of persons with disabilities. The "lessons learned" and "best practices" from these communities will guide the discussion toward possible strategies for supporting employers in our community. Employers will also leave with an understanding of the supports currently available to them as well as clear ideas on their "next steps" for implementing change in their company.

Concurrent Workshops
Delegates will participate in both of the following workshops (one in the morning and one in the afternoon):
Demystifying the Legal Issues
In this session, Mundy McLaughlin helps employers understand the legal issues around workplace accommodations. Mundy explains the legal precedents governing the obligations of employers to accommodate disabilities including "tough cases" such as scent sensitivity and workplace standards such as shift work and performance measures. This interactive workshop engages participants through the discussion of policy approaches, as well as case studies and videos.
Understanding Accommodation
We hear the term "accommodation" all the time but do we really know what it means? In this workshop, employers will learn what it really means to be a company that accommodates its employees with disabilities, how different accommodations can be implemented and the associated costs and benefits.
